NC Fall Redfish Shootout - The Redfish Guys

by Lee Padrick, October 6, 2013

The Redfish Guys came in second place at the NC Fall Redfish Shootout held at Fulcher's Landing in Sneads Ferry on October 5th.

This event was the third of the year held at this location, with previous tournaments in May and July.  This tournament was originally scheduled for September 28th, but high winds convinced the teams to move it back a week.

We had practiced at some spots close to the ramp, but we couldn't find the fish we needed.  A few weeks ago, we caught some heavier fish in the Morehead City area, so with the calm wind conditions and a morning high tide, our plan was to run 45 miles and fish.

Great morning for a long boat run.  We checked out at 6:40 AM and Dwayne had put two fish in the box by 7:55 AM.  Stayed in the first spot for about an hour, catching a bigger fish to upgrade our smallest.  Then we went to our second spot, hoping to catch some heavier fish.

Dwayne caught fish all day.  It wasn't a hot bite, but it was steady.  We both fished popping corks with soft plastics on jigheads, but Dwayne outfished me 11-2.  After upgrading a few more times, we had a 5 lber and a 4.5 lber in the box.  The tide ran us out of our spot, so we stopped to top off the gas tank and made the ride back to Sneads Ferry.

Jason Dail and Brent Stanley won the tournament with 11.02 lbs.  Congrats, guys!  And congrats to Mike and Vikki Pedersen for their 3rd place finish with 8.55 lbs.

Thanks to Capt Mike Pedersen for organizing the event and donating prizes, and thanks to Daniel Sbrocco for serving as our Weighmaster.
